Souvlaki

This is a really quick and easy dish to make anytime! Just add the marinade, no oil or salt required for a sensational tasty Souv.

All you need to do is cook your protein and prep the veg and warm the pita. How easy is that?

* You can even save even more prep time, by marinating your chicken and prepping your veggies the night before.

Ingredients

– 1 Kg of chicken pieces (or any protein of choice)

– 1 Pkt of Evrope’s Kitchen Souvlaki/Gyros Marinade

– 2-3 Tomatoes

– 1 medium Red Onion

– Tzatziki

– 1 pkt. Pita bread (we recommend Gerry’s Pita)

Optional:

– Spicy Feta dip

– Lettuce

Method

 

  1.  Cut you protein to approx I cm pieces.
  2. Put your fry pan (preferably non-stick) on a high heat and leave for about 30 seconds to heat up.
  3. Add your protein in small batches.
  4. Leave to caramelise on one side for about 1-2 minutes (or until you see golden brown
  5. colour)
  6. Once caramelised on one side, turn over; put the heat down to medium and leave to cook for another 1-2 mins depending on the cut size of the protein.
  7. Once protein is cooked-put contents into bowl, cover with foil and leave, repeat above process until all is cooked.

Pita

  1. Clean Pan and get ready to cook the pita bread.
  2. On a low-med heat spray some olive oil (or drizzle a teaspoon) on one side of the pita to cook for about 1 min
  3. Turn pita over and repeat. Once cooked, cover with a tea towel and repeat above until all pitas are cooked.

To Assemble:

  1. Lay the pita on a baking paper.
  2. Add your desired amount of protein in the middle if the pita
  3. On the side on the protein add 1 full heap of tzatziki
  4. On the side on the protein add 1 full heap of chilli feta dip (if desired)
  5. On top of the protein add Tomato first, then the onion

*Tip: This is only an option, only to make sure your souvlaki does not fall out as you are eating.

*Fold the bottom of the pita up a bit then grab one side of the pita start rolling

Once rolled get your greaseproof paper and repeat like you did with the souvlaki

*For BBQing- leave wooden skewers in water for a few hours, this will ensure not to burn on the BBQ when cooking.
